Hi everyone, First of all thanks to the creator of this forum. I have finally found some time to play around with dobot. Could someone please direct me which app and which code (the open one or dobot official one) and other help in order to write and draw with dobot? Is it possible to write/draw a bit accurately with dobot in the first place? This was the main reason that I bought it for. Im very new to robotics Thanks

Currently open-dobot is not suited to do that, although it could, potentially, and faster than the original software, potentially. I have tried using original software to do some drawing with a pen - horrible. The reasons are the backlash in motor gears and software itself. I wouldn't expect it to draw with a brush much better, and definitely it is way slower and much less accurate than a proper plotter can do that. Even if you succeed in making it draw anything with reasonable quality, it is extremely slow in these tasks and takes too much time to complete a simple drawing (a simple rectangle would take a couple of minutes). My advice - given this is your main use case, don't waste time, buy one of those, www.gearbest.com/3d-printers-3d-printer-kits/pp_343643.html, replace the head with a pen holder and enjoy precise and fast plotting/drawing.

ah thats sad thanks for your help how did they manage to do the videos? The video in which dobot starts writing seemed to be able to write quite accurately. So far what task did you find Dobot to be quite competent at?

If you look carefully you won't see the control box you received on any of the videos. There are some ways making it performant and accurate, but not with Arduino only, which is the reason open-dobot does processing on the host and uses Arduino to communicate with peripherals only. The videos are also not realtime, my guess would be they are about 5-10x. With original software it does seem to be able to make a straight line in the air (not with push-pull tasks, like when pushing and pulling a pen to draw). With a brush it may be able to draw, but, as I said, extremely slowly. Give it a go with the original software so that you see for yourself what it is capable of as it is quite an expensive toy to just throw out without even trying
